Archbishop Ryan Debater Heading to Nationals

Senior Nate Tarnoviski is off to Wisconsin Memorial Day Weekend for the National Catholic Forensic League National Championships. Nate is one of only six students to qualify to represent the entire Philadelphia city and suburban region at Nationals!

Archbishop Ryan High School students compete in the Philadelphia Catholic Forensic League (PCFL) which consists of 30 archdiocesan, public, charter and private academy high schools from Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware and Chester counties. Pictured from left at the recent PCFL Banquet holding their trophies and award certificates are Assistant Coach and Ryan English teacher Ms. Lauren Barnhardt, senior Nate Tarnoviski, sophomore Peter Jester and freshman Elisabeth Beaudouin. Ms. Barnhardt is holding Archbishop Ryan's team trophy for placing 4th in the entire league!

DAD VAIL REGATTA POSTER CONTEST WINNERS

For the 5th straight year, a Ryan student has won the overall prize in the Dad Vail Regatta Poster art contest. This year's winner is Janiene Ferrante. Ryan artists won five of the ten awards in this year's contest. Stephanie Koszarek earned first place honors. Charlene Uban, Janina Lamb and Su Yeon Lee were awarded honorable mention.The Pennsylvania Department of Education has awarded The Vine Literary Magazine the NCTE Excellence in Student Literacy Magazine award. Congratulations to The Vine team for creating one of the leading high school literary magazines in the country!

Congratulations to Andrew Rogers '08. The William Markward Memorial Basketball Club has recognized Andrew as the top senior boys' basketball player in Philadelphia. No previous Ryan player has ever received this honor. Andrew was also named Catholic League Northern Division MVP by league coaches and Markward's senior MVP of the Catholic League.

Congratulations to the Indoor Track distance medley quartet - Sean Mallon '08, Phil Celona '09, Kevin Myslinski '08 and Kieran Hennessy '09. They won the National Scholastic Indoor Track Championship in New York City. The victory earned them all-America status.

Denny O'Brien '70 - Speaker of the PA House

Speaker O'Brien addresses the Ryan community during an assembly honoring Astronaut Chris Ferguson '79 on November 11, 2006. State Representative George Kenney joined with the speaker in the presentation.

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives elected State Representative Dennis O'Brien, Class of 1970, to be Speaker of the House during the opening session on January 2. Denny has served in the state legislature for 30 years. Denny is an active and supportive member of the alumni association and the school community takes great pride in his accomplishments! Way to Go, Denny!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to National Merit Semi-finalist Madalyn Czerniak and National Merit Commended students Jillian Jourdain, Michael StJohn, Kaitlin McNamara and Gia Yannuzzi. These students received this recognition based on their performance on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test administered during the fall of their junior year. Congratulations to these outstanding students of the Class of 2007!
